- 235.Squadron was uitgerust met de Blenheim IV lichte bommenwerpers en gestationeerd te Manston. In de ochtend van 12 mei had het squadron opdracht om agressieve patrouille te vliegen in de sector Den Haag. Men werd echter onderschept en kwam rond Rotterdam in een luchtgevecht terecht. Daarbij werden twee Blenheims neergeschoten. E n boven Brielle (welke bij Oostvoorne neerkwam) en n bij Hoek van Holland. Slechts n van de zes bemanningsleden - P/O Norman Savill van het toestel dat bij Oostvoorne neerkwam - overleefde. Hij raakte zwaar gewond (beenbreuk, brandwonden).
- Sergeant (Volunteer Reserve) Sunderland werd samen met de boordschutter LAC Tyler gedood tijdens een aanval van een Duitse Bf-109 boven het Westland. De piloot, P/O Savill sprong daarop gewond uit het toestel, dat daarop nabij de Kloosterweg te Oostvoorne neerstortte. De beide aan boord zijnde vliegers werden begraven in Oostvoorne.
- 235.Squadron was equipped with the Blenheim type IV light bomber and stationed at Manston. In the morning of May 12, 1940 the squadron was instructed to perform an agressive patrol across the sector the Hague. It was intercepted by German fighters though, what caused the formation to be scattered. Two planes ended up being shot down near Hook of Holland and near Oostvoorne. Only one of the in total six involved crew members managed to survive, P/O Norman Savill. He was of the plane that crashed near the Kloosterweg in Oostvoorne and was badly injured upon his arrival on the ground (complicated leg fracture, bad burns).
- Sergeant observer (VR) Sunderland had together with air gunner Tyler been killed during the air battle over the Westland district. P/O Savill bailed out though. The plane crashed near Oostvoorne. Both KIA were burried in Oostvoorne.
